The process and set of practices by which journalists, editors, and news organizations select, filter, prioritize, frame, or withhold information and events for public dissemination, using criteria such as newsworthiness, resource constraints, legal and ethical considerations, institutional routines, and audience expectations; distinct from external censorship though influenced by external actors.
