Fluid Catalytic Cracking

A continuous refinery process in which vaporized heavy hydrocarbon feed is contacted with a hot, fluidized solid catalyst (commonly zeolitic) in a riser/reactor to break larger hydrocarbon molecules into lighter products; catalyst and hydrocarbons circulate between reactor and regenerator to remove coke and maintain catalyst activity.
