Flash Drum

A vapor–liquid separator vessel in which a mixed feed undergoes a controlled pressure (and sometimes temperature) reduction so that a fraction of the liquid flashes to vapor; the drum provides residence time and internal geometry (inlet devices, disengagement space, weirs) to effect phase disengagement and collect separated vapor and liquid streams.
