Fetlock

The joint formed between the distal end of the third metacarpal/metatarsal (cannon) bone and the proximal phalanx in ungulates, anatomically equivalent to the metacarpophalangeal or metatarsophalangeal joint; functions as a load-bearing hinge that permits controlled extension and stores/returns elastic energy during limb support and propulsion.
