Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition (EMT)

A regulated cellular program in which epithelial cells lose apical–basal polarity and intercellular adhesion, downregulate epithelial markers and acquire mesenchymal traits such as increased motility, invasiveness and extracellular matrix production; transitions occur along a spectrum from partial to full and are context‑dependent.
