An empirically derived activity-based model that characterizes information seeking as a set of recurrent tactics or behaviours—commonly enumerated as starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, extracting and ending—which users combine and repeat nonlinearly to locate, evaluate and acquire information.
