Ecological Fallacy

A methodological error: inferring that an association observed between variables at an aggregate (group, area, or population) level applies to individuals within those aggregates; aggregate-level correlations can arise from compositional or contextual differences and do not reliably indicate the direction, magnitude or existence of individual-level associations.
