Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

A persistent, resolvable identifier assigned to a digital object that, together with associated metadata maintained by a registration agency, provides a stable reference not tied to the object's current location; resolution of the DOI via a resolver service returns a landing page or target URL determined by the registrant but does not itself guarantee continued access to the object's content.
