Cistern

A constructed reservoir or tank, located aboveground or subterranean, designed to collect, store and make accessible rainwater or other public water supplies for use in a settlement; typically lined or sealed to reduce infiltration and loss, provided with controlled inlets/outlets and access for maintenance, and intended to buffer temporal variability in available water.
