Annealing

A controlled heat‑treatment process in which a metallic material is heated to a specified temperature, held to allow microstructural change (such as recrystallization or spheroidization), and then cooled at a controlled rate so as to reduce hardness, relieve internal stresses, and restore ductility and toughness appropriate to subsequent processing or service.
