A conceptual framework that explains use of health services as a function of three classes of determinants—predisposing characteristics (e.g., demographics, health beliefs), enabling resources (e.g., income, insurance, access), and need factors (perceived and evaluated health problems)—where service use results from the interaction among these domains rather than any single factor.
