Anastomotic Leak

Escape of luminal contents through a failed or insufficiently sealed surgical anastomosis between tubular organs (e.g., bowel, ureter), producing contamination of adjacent spaces; diagnosis is clinical, radiological, or surgical and implies breakdown of the anastomotic barrier rather than superficial wound separation.
