Definition

An extraction method in which a solvent is used at conditions above its critical temperature and pressure so that it is a supercritical fluid; the supercritical solvent selectively solubilizes target components from a feed matrix and is returned to a less dense phase by depressurization to recover solute without leaving significant liquid solvent residue.
