Definition

An agriculture and forestry concept defining practices, measurements, or management tools used in land-based production and stewardship. It applies when operational prerequisites are satisfied and produces defined effects on productivity, sustainability, or resource condition. It does not replace monitoring and adaptive management and cannot ensure outcomes without proper implementation.

Definition

A measure of site productivity for a given species defined as the expected dominant or site‑index tree height at a specified reference age (base age); typically expressed as the dominant height at base age (e.g., height of the tallest cohort trees at age 50). Site index is a height‑based proxy for the site’s capacity to support growth of that species.
