The ratio of horizontal effective stress to vertical effective stress in a soil mass that has experienced no lateral strain (i.e., is laterally restrained), representing the in‑situ lateral stress state prior to deformation; denoted K0 and used to estimate lateral earth pressures for intact, undisturbed deposits.
