Definition

An empirical relation that gives the gas breakdown (insulation) voltage between two electrodes as a function of the product of gas pressure p and electrode separation d (the pd product); for a given gas and electrode materials it predicts a characteristic curve with a minimum breakdown voltage at an intermediate pd value.
