Definition

A reactor in which the fluid reactants flow through a stationary bed of solid particles (catalyst pellets, adsorbents, or packing) so that reaction or adsorption occurs at particle surfaces and within pores; performance is governed by convective flow through the void space, pressure drop, external and intraparticle mass and heat transfer resistances, and heterogeneous surface reaction kinetics.
