Definition

A reception condition in which discrete units of transmitted data (packets, segments, frames) arrive at the receiver in a sequence different from the order in which they were sent; reordering can result from parallel paths, variable queuing, retransmissions, or route changes and must be handled by the receiver or transport protocol to preserve correctness or application semantics.
