Definition

An algebraic object (ring, module, etc.) is non-Noetherian if it fails the ascending chain condition (ACC) on subobjects or ideals: there exists an infinite strictly increasing chain I1 ⊂ I2 ⊂ I3 ⊂ ··· of subobjects.
