Definition

The mutual interaction between magnetic state (magnetization, magnetic field) and mechanical strain in materials where magnetostrictive or inverse-magnetostrictive effects cause magnetic properties to change with deformation and mechanical stress to change with magnetic field, enabling transduction between magnetic and elastic domains.
