Definition

A minimally invasive surgical technique in which a laparoscope (a rigid or flexible optical instrument with illumination and a camera) and specialized instruments are introduced through small abdominal incisions (ports) to inspect intra‑abdominal organs, obtain biopsies, perform limited surgical procedures, or assist diagnosis; chosen to reduce surgical trauma and recovery time compared with open
