Definition

A continuum contact-mechanics model for two elastic, smooth, isotropic bodies (commonly spheres) that couples Hertzian elastic deformation with surface energy (work of adhesion) to predict contact radius, load–displacement relation and pull-off force under adhesive contact, assuming linear elasticity, no plasticity, and contact-localized adhesive forces.
