Definition

An empirical constitutive relation stating that the local heat flux density q (vector) in a material equals the negative product of the material's thermal conductivity k (scalar or tensor) and the temperature gradient: q = -k ∇T; valid in the continuum, near‑equilibrium regime where heat is transported diffusively.
