Definition

The mass or quantity of feed consumed by an animal expressed on a dry‑matter basis (i.e., excluding water weight) over a specified time interval and animal basis (per head, per group, per metabolic weight). Dry matter intake (DMI) standardizes feed intake measurements to remove variability due to moisture and supports calculation of nutrient and energy intake from feedstuffs.
