Definition

An intermittent indexing mechanism in which a continuously rotating driving member (with a pin) engages radial slots in a driven wheel (the Geneva wheel), producing stepwise rotary motion of the driven wheel separated by stationary (dwell) intervals; engagement typically uses a single driving pin or roller and a locking feature prevents motion during dwell.
