Definition

A craniofacial growth model that proposes skeletal form of the face and jaws emerges secondarily from the growth and functional demands of surrounding soft-tissue units (muscles, organs, spaces and connective tissue ‘matrices’); skeletal changes are responses to functional matrices rather than autonomous, solely skeletal programs.
