Définition

Pour une application continue f : X→Y, le cylindre de la carte Mf est l'espace obtenu en prenant la réunion disjointe X×[0,1] ⊔ Y et en identifiant chaque (x,1)∈X×{1} avec f(x)∈Y ; autrement dit Mf = X×[0,1] ⊔_f Y. Il sert de modèle pour une homotopie entre f et l'inclusion cofibrante de X dans Mf.
