Définition

Un homomorphisme canonique d'une algèbre de Banach commutative (en particulier une C*-algèbre commutative) vers l'algèbre des fonctions continues à valeurs complexes sur son espace d'idéaux maximaux (spectre de Gelfand), envoyant un élément sur sa valeur en les fonctionnelles multiplicatives linéaires (caractères).
