Definition

A vessel in which a rising fluid (gas or liquid) flows through a bed of granular solid particles at velocities sufficient to suspend and mobilize the solids, creating a fluidized state that increases solids–fluid contact area and enhances convective heat and mass transfer for reactions, drying, or coating.
