A numerical representation of an anatomical continuum in which the geometry is discretized into finite elements with assigned material constitutive relations and boundary conditions so that field equations (e.g., for stress, strain, displacement) can be solved approximately; used to predict mechanical behaviour under specified loads in dental structures, prostheses, implants and supporting tissues
