Definition

The largest alternating (fully reversed) stress amplitude that a material can endure indefinitely (conventionally taken as 'infinite' life) without fatigue failure under specified test conditions; for some materials (notably many steels) this appears as a plateau in an S‑N curve, while other materials do not exhibit a true endurance limit and instead have a fatigue strength defined at a finite num
