Definition

A cryptographic method in which data are encrypted by the sender and remain encrypted during transit and at intermediary systems so that only the intended endpoints possess the cryptographic material required to recover plaintext; protection depends on endpoint key control and correct implementation, and does not by itself hide metadata or protect compromised endpoints.
