Ein modulares Gitter ist ein Gitter, das die modulare Identität erfüllt: für alle x, y, z mit x ≤ z gilt x ∨ (y ∧ z) = (x ∨ y) ∧ z. Diese Bedingung ist schwächer als Distributivität, aber stärker als die bloßen Gitteraxiome und steuert die Wechselwirkung von Join und Meet, wenn ein Element unter einem anderen steht.
