Ein Ligandenaustauschmechanismus an einem Koordinationskomplex, bei dem ein vorhandenes Ligand zuerst vom Metallzentrum abscheidet und ein niederkoordiniertes Zwischenprodukt (häufig eine koordinativ untergesättigte Spezies) bildet; das eingehende Ligand bindet anschließend wieder.
