Definition

Ein feinkörniges bis aphanitisches mafisches extrusives Tiefengestein mit niedrigem Siliziumdioxidgehalt (etwa 45–52 % SiO2), hohem Fe–Mg-Gehalt und einer typischen Mineralassemblage, die überwiegend Plagioklas, Klinopyroxen und Olivin umfasst; häufig in ozeanischer Kruste, Flutbasalten und Schildvulkanen.
