Definition

A condition in a circulating coolant circuit (liquid or gas) where coolant mass flow rate is interrupted or reduced below the design or necessary rate such that convective heat removal from heat-producing components is insufficient to maintain safe operating temperatures, producing accelerated thermal stress, degradation, or functional failure.
