Definition

A standardized hardness number obtained by pressing a spherical indenter of specified diameter into a material under a specified load for a specified time, then measuring the indentation diameter and computing the Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) via the standard formula; BHN quantifies resistance to permanent indentation under the test conditions.
